Nexweet® Allulose and Fiberest™ Resistant Dextrin has no impact on blood glucose levels: Clinical trial results have been released by Samyang Corporation
2023.09.11Samyang Corporation has released the clinical trial results related to the glycemic response of allulose and resistant dextrin, conducted with one of the universities in Australia.
In general, carbohydrates affect blood glucose levels in the body. Most glycemic carbohydrates can increase blood glucose because they are digested and absorbed quickly in the small intestine.
Allulose is mostly absorbed in the small intestine, but unlike glucose, it does not affect the increase of blood glucose levels. Resistant dextrin also has a low effect on the glycemic response because it is mostly composed of indigestible carbohydrates.
Overall, it was confirmed that the samples used in this study, Samyang's products, Nexweet® Allulose and Fiberest™ Resistant Dextrin, alleviate the increase of blood glucose levels.
In the clinical trial, ten healthy adults consumed 25 g of allulose, resistant dextrin, or glucose samples in at least 10 hour-fasted state. The postprandial blood glucose was measured at regular intervals for 120 minutes after intake.
In the research, subtle change was observed when serum glucose concentration was measured at regular intervals for 120 minutes after consuming allulose.
Meanwhile, in case of resistant dextrin, the blood glucose level increased slightly after consumption, but it quickly returned to basal. It showed a significantly lower level compared to the control sample (Figure 1).
When calculating the relative glycemic response value, assuming the value of 100 for the control samples, allulose showed 1.87 compared to the control sample, and in the case of resistant dextrin, it was also low at 13.52 (Figure 2).
These results were identical with or better than those of other commonly known ingredients. Therefore, they exemplify that allulose and resistant dextrin are representing ingredients that do not raise blood glucose levels.
There were not any gastrointestinal side effects even though the participants consumed 25 grams of test portions.
A researcher from Samyang said, "This study confirms that Samyang’s products of Nexweet® and Fiberest™ do not raise blood glucose levels, which once again assures that they are ideal ingredients for low-sugar solutions. Thus, these are optimal sugar reduction or nutrition-fortified ingredients that can be applied to products suitable for consumers who are sensitive to blood sugar level or on keto diet with minimal sugar content." In addition, he added, "We will continue to conduct several preclinical and clinical studies to prove various health functions of Nexweet® and Fiberest™, which are specialty ingredients for health.”
